Trivia Question 21 Answer
Giovanni Domenico Santorini was an 18th century Italian anatomist who described several important anatomic structures or locations. The fissures of santorini are relevant to oto-neuroradiology. These fissures extend from the cartilagenous (outer 1/3) portion of the EAC to the parotid gland and can serve as a conduit for spread of tumor or infection.
A related variant is a persistent foramen of Huschke, which extends more medially from the anteroinferior EAC to the posteromedial aspect of the TMJ. This can also serve as a conduit of spread.
